National stocks extend gains

Shares continued to rise this January 16morning with better market sentiment.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index put on 1.4 per cent, reaching 467.94 points. Gainers outnumbered losers by 192-60. The value of trades, however, dropped slightly compared to yesterday morning to VND892.5 billion (US$42.5 million) with trading volume fetching nearly 66.7 million shares.

Of the 30 leading shares by capitalisation and liquidity, only five tumbled. Construction companies Dic Corp (DIG), Tan Tao (ITA) and Da Nang Rubber Co (DRC) enjoyed a good session, all hitting their ceiling prices.

The VN30 added 1.26 per cent to close at 549.59 points.

The benchmark HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange also increased over 2 per cent to 63.47 points as rising stocks trebled declining codes.

Nearly 64.3 million shares changed hands on a turnover of VND475.9 billion ($22.6 million). Blue chips in Ha Noi helped the HNX30 to advance by 2 per cent, standing at 124.24 points.

Trading will resume at 1pm.
