Shares jump on both exchanges

Shares rose on both stock exchanges this morning despite reduced market volumes and values.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, gainers overwhelmed losers by 208-31, broadly in line with a rise of 2 per cent of the benchmark VN-Index which closed this morning's session at 434.95 points.

The value of trades reached over VND787 billion (US$37.5 million), only half of yesterday morning's value of VND1.5 trillion (US$71.4 million). The trading volume was also sluggish at just 48 million shares.

Blue chips soared, pushing up the VN30 Index which measures the performance of the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity. The index rose by 1.33 per cent to 510.79 points.

Amongst the 30 codes, 27 rallied, three were unmoved and no code sank. Eight soared to the ceiling prices this morning, including heavyweight shares such as insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), HCM City Infrastructure Investment (CII), Ocean Group (OGC) and Sacombank Securities Co (SBS).

Tan Tao Industry Investment (ITA) temporarily led trades during the morning session with 2.75 million shares changing hands, closing up 2.7 per cent at VND7,600 each.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also rose 2.33 per cent to 75.5 points as losers outnumbered gainers by 186-47.

Market value more than doubled the value of yesterday's morning session, reaching VND425.5 billion ($20.3 million) on a volume of nearly 42.5 million shares.

PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) rose to be the most active share on a whopping trade of 8.6 million shares, closing at the ceiling price of VND10,300 ($0.49) a share.
