Shares rally on lower trading

Shares rallied during this June 1 morning's session on both national stock exchanges.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index rose 0.26 per cent to close at 74.26 points.

Trading, however, was sluggish, with only 16.5 million shares worth VND167.1 billion (US$7.9 million) changing hands, a decrease of 32 per cent in volume and 27.1 per cent in value compared to yesterday morning.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index ended at 430.60 points, a 0.3 per cent advance compared to yesterday's close.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 128-84.

Trading value reached VND431.8 billion ($20.5 million), a slight increase over yesterday morning with 28.8 million shares exchanged.

Of the 10 leading shares by capitalisation, only Eximbank (EIB) lost ground, falling 0.8 per cent, while other blue chips posted healthy gains.

The VN30 Index, which tracks HCM City's 30 largest stocks, edged up nearly 0.1 per cent to 507.47 points.
