The National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) invested more than VNĐ29 trillion (over US$1.1 billion) in power transmission projects in 2025, exceeding its annual target, the company has said.
EVNNPT began construction on 42 projects and completed and commissioned 49 others during the year, its Acting General Director Trương Hữu Thành told a conference in Hà Nội.
Several key 500-kilovolt and 220-kilovolt substations and transmission lines were brought into operation, helping ease congestion and improve power transmission from major generation sources.
Electricity transmitted through the national grid in 2025 is estimated at more than 256.5 billion kilowatt-hours, up over 4 per cent from 2024, Thành said, adding that the system operated safely and stably even during peak summer demand.
Despite delays caused by land clearance and regulatory procedures, EVNNPT said total investment reached nearly 140 per cent of the target set at the start of the year. The company also mobilised personnel to support construction of the Lào Cai-Vĩnh Yên 500-kilovolt transmission line, which was energised in line with Government directives.
Looking ahead to 2026, EVNNPT said it aims to transmit 276.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, start construction on 87 projects and complete 86, focusing on strengthening the 500-kilovolt north-central-south backbone grid.
For his part, Chairman of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Đặng Hoàng An urged EVNNPT to strengthen organisational leadership and maintain staff morale during its restructuring process, while prioritising the safe operation of the national transmission grid and accelerating key and urgent projects.
He said the power sector faced significant challenges from natural disasters in 2025, but efforts across the industry, including the transmission segment, helped ensure assigned tasks were completed.
With electricity demand remaining high to support Việt Nam’s growth targets, he said the transmission sector would need to continue innovating and adapting to meet development needs.
