ABBANK’s annual Tết social welfare programme offers ‘green’ livelihood support in Nghệ An

Tết An Bình, ABBANK’s annual social welfare programme, will take place on January 25 in Thông Thụ Commune, Nghệ An Province, with the theme “Sowing Green Seeds of Happiness” this year.

Located along the Việt Nam–Lao border, Thông Thụ is a mountainous area that frequently suffers from natural disasters, particularly heavy rains and storms that trigger landslides and disrupt transport.

These have had a direct impact on local livelihoods.

In recent years, especially following storms No 5 and No 10 in 2025, many villages were cut off after transport infrastructure, electricity and telecommunications systems were severely damaged, making post-disaster recovery particularly difficult.

In response, Tết An Bình 2026 continues ABBANK’s long-term approach, focusing on tree planting and sustainable livelihood support rather than short-term relief alone.

It will coordinate with local authorities to donate 100,000 cinnamon trees to local residents.

Cinnamon is well suited to the local climate and soil conditions. Notably, the former Quế Phong District is considered a “cinnamon hub” of Nghệ An Province.

With relatively low initial investment, strong growth potential and high economic value, cinnamon enables households to earn short-term income by harvesting leaves and branches during cultivation, while gradually improving earnings and stabilising livelihoods over the long term.

Commenting on the programme, Đỗ Lam Điền, a member of ABBANK’s executive board, said Tết An Bình is a key pillar of the lender’s corporate social responsibility strategy, reflecting its long-term commitment to community development.

“Through the sustained implementation of the Green An Bình – Green Việt Nam project, with Tết An Bình serving as a bridge between environmental protection and livelihood support, ABBANK aims to foster peace, happiness and sustainable stability for local people – not only during one Tết season, but well into the future.”

After 16 years Tết An Bình has become a hallmark initiative of the bank, evolving beyond seasonal charity to focus on creating lasting community value.

This year also marks the sixth year it has carried out tree-planting under the Green An Bình – Green Việt Nam project, with Tết An Bình playing a key role in raising environmental awareness while supporting sustainable livelihoods in disadvantaged areas, the bank added.
