Locally made buses to be exported to Thailand

Local carmaker Kim Long Motor and Thai partner, Thavee Group, officially signed a contract for the annual supply of 3,000 electric buses and Yuchai engine buses to serve passenger transport demands in Thailand.

Kim Long Motor said the locally made EV bus model has been designed in line with current environmental, infrastructure and traffic standards in Thailand.

The company said the diesel Yuchai engine-powered bus model, which qualifies for the Euro 5 standard, will also be used in the Thai market.

Previously, the local vehicle producer also signed a sale agreement for 1,000 buses with Ekijsetthi Mobility of Thailand. This contract is expected to help expand the market to the Middle East, according to the Vietnamese company.

Another 100-bus supply contract was signed by Kim Long Motor and Nexus Star Corp for export to the Philippines.

Last week, the local brand debuted a US$260 million Yuchai engine manufacturing plant in the Kim Long Motor Huế Automobile Manufacturing and Assembly Industrial Park in the Chân Mây-Lăng Cô Economic Zone.

Kim Long Motor has also expanded into South Korea via a deal with DAON Mobility to supply 200 Huế-manufactured buses annually.

It has targeted boosting the production localisation rate up to 90 per cent in the second quarter of 2026.
