To promote the effective implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in the packaging sector and support sustainable development, Vietnam News and Law under Vietnam News Agency and Vinexad National Trade Fair & Advertising JSC will co-host the “Green Packaging Forum: EPR Journey Towards Sustainable Value” on August 8, 2025, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), HCM City.
The forum is part of the Vietfood & Beverage – Propack Vietnam 2025 exhibition and is expected to welcome over 100 participants, including government officials, industry associations, producers, importers, recyclers, international organisations, environmental startups, academics and policy experts.
The event brought together leading F&B companies that are actively promoting EPR practices in Việt Nam, including major names such as Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO), Suntory PepsiCo, DUYTAN Recycling, among others.
EPR regulation, effective in Việt Nam since January 1, 2024, requires producers and importers to take responsibility for collecting, recycling or treating waste from their products and packaging. However, after more than a year, implementation has faced challenges due to inconsistent regulations and limited information access for businesses.
To address this, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has drafted a dedicated EPR decree, aiming to streamline current regulations and improve transparency and feasibility. The draft is currently open for public consultation.
A highlight of the forum is the policy dialogue session titled “F&B Collaboration – From EPR Obligations to Brand Value”, which will feature representatives from regulatory bodies, food and beverage companies, recyclers and environmental tech startups. Key discussion points include collaboration between producers and recyclers, eco-design, integrating EPR into ESG and branding strategies, SME support and feedback on the draft decree.
The event aims to foster dialogue, transparency and cooperation among stakeholders toward a practical and transparent EPR system tailored to Việt Nam’s needs.
