PM urges support for local products

Mr Hun Manet thanks Cambodians for supporting local products in the spirit of ‘Cambodians helping Cambodians’ during challenging times.

Prime Minister Hun Manet Monday called on all citizens to support locally made products and work diligently in cultivating and processing goods for both personal use and broader consumption.

He also instructed the Ministry of Commerce to consistently monitor market prices and prevent any exploitation or unjustified price increases.

Mr Hun Manet made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the Central Committee meeting of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia in Siem Reap province.

Praising the citizens for supporting local products in the spirit of ‘Cambodians helping Cambodians’ during challenging times, the Premier said, “I have long emphasised the importance of strengthening our internal capacity, especially since before the Cambodia-Thailand conflict, by enhancing domestic market connections and reducing reliance on external sources.”

The Premier also called on vendors, particularly those selling fruits and vegetables, not to take advantage of the situation by inflating prices for excessive profit, which would create hardship for local consumers.

Earlier on Friday, Ngin Chhay, Director General of the General Department of Agriculture, said that there is no shortage in meeting demand.

Khim Finan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, confirmed last week that Cambodia has enough production capacity to meet its food security needs, despite the ban on fruit and vegetable imports from Thailand.
