Insurance sector logs $102-million gross premium in Q1
Cambodia’s insurance industry registered a gross premium of $102 million in the first quarter of 2025, up 6 per cent from $96 million in the same period last year, according to a report from the Insurance Regulator of Cambodia (IRC).
The growth was generated from 18 general insurers, 14 life insurers, seven micro-insurance companies, and one reinsurance firm.
The report stated that the total amount of claims incurred was approximately $22 million during the January-May period this year, representing a 34 per cent increase from $16 million during the same period last year.
The Kingdom’s insurance industry currently has more than $1 billion in total assets.
IRC Director General Bou Chanphirou stated that the insurance sector has played a crucial role in supporting the social security system and has proactively contributed to national economic development.
“The insurance sector plays a crucial role in supporting the social security system and proactively contributing to national economic development,” he said.
He stated that the Kingdom’s insurance penetration was 1.17 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024, with an insurance density of $22 per person.
