Cambodia spends over $1 bln on imports of energy in the January-May period
Cambodia’s imports of diesel fuel, gasoline, and combustion gas declined by 13 percent in the first five months of 2025, a Ministry of Commerce report showed on Wednesday.
The value of diesel fuel, gasoline, and combustion gas imports totalled $1,045 million during the January-May period this year, down 13 per cent from $1,202 million over the same period last year, the report stated.
Cambodia spent $571 million on importing diesel fuel, down 11 per cent; $335 million on gasoline, down 21 per cent; and $139 million on combustion gas, up 1.6 per cent, the report added.
Currently, the Southeast Asian country relies entirely on imports of oil and gas, as its seabed oil reserves have not been exploited yet.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy has forecast that the demand for oil and gas products in Cambodia will rise to 4.8 million tonnes in 2030, up from 2.8 million tonnes in 2020.
At petroleum stations on Wednesday, regular gasoline costs 3,750 riels ($0.94) per litre, as diesel goes for 3,550 riels ($0.88).
