PM exhorts journos to promote Cambodia to attract investors

Prime Minister Hun Manet Saturday urged journalists and all citizens to help promote the positive aspects of Cambodia, especially its tourism sector to attract foreign investors and tourists.

Speaking at the 7th annual meeting and solidarity dinner with media leaders, spokespersons, information officers and journalists on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day 2025 at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Centre (CCIC), Mr Hun Manet said that promoting the country and attracting investors is not the sole responsibility of the Royal Government.

Anyone, including journalists, has the right to highlight Cambodia’s positive qualities to draw in tourists and investors.

“Some say only politicians and the government have the right to promote the country, but journalists also have that right. Promoting Cambodia helps attract tourists,” the Premier said, adding, “Journalists interview investors and showcase Cambodia’s strengths to the world. This kind of promotion is a shared responsibility, not an exclusive duty of the government.”

“I encourage journalists to continue promoting Cambodia and investment opportunities here.”

He noted that some journalists have highlighted ancient Khmer temples, others have reported on fishing ports and tourist destinations, such efforts contribute to showcasing the country’s positive aspects.

“This is a form of participation with the government in attracting both tourists and investors,” he added, emphasising that this role belongs to all journalists and content creators.

The Primer also noted that some journalists conduct interviews in Chinese and English, engaging with local investors and promoting them to international audiences.

“This is a form of participation, not an exclusive duty or right of the government,” he said. “I encourage you to continue supporting and advancing this important work.”

On that occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet also expressed his gratitude to journalists and content creators who have shared positive stories about Cambodia with the world. He encouraged them not to hesitate in continuing this work.

“Don’t be afraid that good news from Cambodia won’t be noticed,” he said. “Please continue to share it.”
