MoC asks supermarkets to sell more Khmer products
The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) Friday encouraged supermarkets and marts to sell more Cambodian products citing that this promotion is aimed at increasing support and wider use of Cambodian products in the domestic market.
The MoC organized a ‘Business Matching Program to Promote Cambodian Products into Supermarkets and Marts by 2025.’ The program aims to expand cooperation between business partners by connecting supermarkets, marts, and Cambodian product manufacturers and suppliers to promote wider support and use of Cambodian products in the domestic market, especially in the delivery of goods to supermarkets and marts.
The program was attended by Seang Thay, Secretary of State of the MoC, General Department of Trade Promotion, representatives of AEON Market, Chip Mong Market, and representatives of Empal Agro Products Co., Ltd.
All attendees discussed the development of Cambodian products, preparation of procedures and conditions for bringing Cambodian products into supermarkets or marts, etc.
Seang Thay asked manufacturers and suppliers of Cambodian products to pay attention to quality and safety for consumption. In particular, proper packaging according to standards and at reasonable prices to have a competitive advantage in both domestic and foreign markets.
The event also provided a platform for Cambodian producers and suppliers to voice challenges and submit requests to supermarket and mart owners regarding the inclusion of Cambodian products in their distribution systems, under the coordination of the MoC.
Earlier, Prime Minister Hun Manet called on all citizens to support and buy Cambodian products for consumption with a nationalistic spirit and cultivate the consciousness of “Khmer people love Khmer, Khmer people use Khmer products as the pride of the Khmer nation” to contribute to the continued existence of local production, aiming to enhance national prestige and ownership.
The appeal was made in a message celebrating the 8th National Day to promote the use of Khmer products on April 9, 2025.
Mr Hun Manet also urged all relevant ministries and institutions at the national and sub-national levels, as well as development partners, national and international non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, continue to collaborate with the National Committee to Promote the One Village, One Product Movement to help strengthen Cambodian producers to develop their products to be of higher quality, more diverse, more trusted by consumers, and have commercial potential in both the national and international markets.
