Cambodia will showcase Khmer products at a business matchmaking event at the Global Summit for Women, a world-class women entrepreneurship conference in Germany, aiming to explore opportunities to export Cambodian goods to European and regional markets.
Chan Pheary, President of the Cambodia Women Entrepreneurs Association (CWEA), remarked earlier this week at the ‘Annual general meeting year 2024 and planning year 2025 of Cambodia Women Entrepreneurs Association (CWEA)’ in Phnom Penh
The event was presided over by Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs (MoWA), as well as many more women entrepreneurs.
Pheary said that in July, the Cambodian Women Entrepreneurs Association (CWEA), having earned the trust of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to organise and lead female entrepreneurs, will participate in the Global Summit for Women 2025, a world-class women’s entrepreneurship conference in Germany.
“Our association will lead 30 female entrepreneurs to the conference, where we will showcase Cambodian products and engage in business matchmaking with companies from Western countries to explore opportunities for exporting Cambodian goods to European and regional markets,” Pheary stressed.
On the occasion, the minister Kantha Phavi also confirmed about the Global Submit for Women in July in Germany.
“If we have vision to expanding our company and business beyond borders to reach overseas markets, it is essential to implement ESG which refers to Environmental, Social, and Governance principles. This is something we need to consider, and as women, we sometimes overlook the importance of this principles,” she said.
She stated that the ministry will organize a group of Cambodian delegates, even though she also be the one attending the conference, but the summit is primarily for the private sector, entrepreneurs, and large companies to meet, discuss the challenges they face, and explore new opportunities and potential in business.
She added that the meeting will also address the use of technology as a tool or platform to develop businesses. She believes technology can significantly support women in business, provided they understand how to use it properly and avoid misuse.
“We believe that by using technology with strong knowledge and responsibility, we can accelerate the development of our business much faster than without it,” Kantha Phavi emphasised.
Regarding the annual meeting of CWEA, the Minister of Women’s Affairs also emphasised that the association’s mission is to provide value not only to itself but also to actively participate in and play an important role in the lives of women entrepreneurs in Cambodia.
It plays a crucial role in improving the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country, making it more conducive to the growth of SMEs.
“When talking about the entrepreneurial ecosystem, we must focus on the situation of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, as they are the foundation and key drivers of long-term economic growth and decent job creation in the country,” Kantha Phavi added.
She stated that in fact, small and medium-sized enterprises account for approximately 98 percent of all companies and it contributes approximately 58 percent of the national economy’s GDP, and provided approximately 73 percent of all jobs.
According to the 2022 Economic Census report, the number of people employed in economic units reached 2,908,569, with 38.2 percent being men and 61.8 percent women.
“Women play a vital role in both the national and family economies. The increasing presence of women and their active participation in both the formal and informal economies not only demonstrate economic growth but also plays a crucial role in fostering social growth and development,” said Kantha Phavi.
