Cambodia, Kazakhstan prioritize tourism, vow to strengthen cooperation in the new year

During his official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan on April 20, Minister of Tourism Huot Hak had lunch and working discussions with Yerkinbayev Yerzhan, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, focusing on strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector throughout 2025.

The two sides intend to sign a memorandum of understanding on tourism in the future, recognizing Cambodia’s peaceful, politically stable and safe environment, which has made it an increasingly attractive destination for Kazakh tourists in recent years.

The meeting also highlighted the success of DAUBAY Productions’ filming of a Kazakh tourism film in Cambodia. The two countries share many common values, such as warm hospitality, the friendliness of the people towards tourists and foreign investors, rich traditional cuisine and flavours, and a deeply rooted, diverse cultural heritage. In addition, Cambodia and Kazakhstan have maintained diplomatic relations for over 30 years.

Notably, the people and government of Kazakhstan still remember the 1982 visit of Mr. Hun Sen.

In a gesture of hospitality, the Deputy Minister personally traveled from the capital Astana to Almaty in the early morning to welcome the Cambodian delegation. He took the time to prepare several traditional dishes himself to welcome the minister, reflecting Kazakhstan’s long-standing tradition of warm hospitality.
