Hun Manet urges more events to attract tourists during the green season

Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has called on relevant ministries, institutions, local authorities, and the private sector to organise more events aimed at attracting tourists to Siem Reap during the Green Season (low season).

The Prime Minister made the remarks while visiting Siem Reap provincial city last evening, where he observed the Khmer New Year celebrations and interacted with local residents and businesses.

“During the Green Season, we must strive to boost tourist numbers to at least 70 to 75 percent of those recorded in the high season,” he said. “To achieve this, we need to create more events along the city’s streets, and the province should regularly organise economic activities — not only during the New Year.”

He highlighted the success of the Angkor Sankranta event, noting that it has energised Siem Reap’s economy, particularly in the city, and improved livelihoods by increasing business activities. He emphasised that similar Sankranta celebrations across the country have delivered positive economic benefits for citizens and local enterprises alike.

“I’m pleased to witness the strong cooperation between the Siem Reap administration, the private sector, and local residents, who have worked hand in hand to beautifully decorate the city and create vibrant spaces for trade and entertainment along the Siem Reap River and in other key areas,” he added.

According to a report from the State-run Angkor Enterprise, 398,531 foreign tourists purchased tickets to visit the Angkor Archaeological Park and Koh Ker Temple during the first three months of this year — a 14.67 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. The sales generated a total revenue of $18.7 million, marking a 13.22 percent rise year-on-year.
