The Da Nang steering committee for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation announced the investment at their first meeting on Tuesday.
Nguyen Van Quang, secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee and head of the steering committee, stated that construction of the Fablab is expected to begin this year.
The first phase of the project will involve an investment of approximately US$68 million, with $6 million allocated to the construction of the clean Fablab, excluding equipment.
The Fablab will cover an area of about 1,500 square meters and will be located at the foot of Thuan Phuoc Bridge in Hai Chau District, near Da Nang Software Park No. 2.
Its construction is meant to support research, testing, and deployment of AI models for small- and medium-sized enterprises, science and technology companies, research groups, and startups.
Last year, the Da Nang People’s Committee established the Da Nang Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence Center for Research and Training (DSAC) at Da Nang Software Park No. 2.
DSAC is tasked with training human resources, supporting investment attraction, fostering research, and incubating startups in the semiconductor and AI sectors.
Currently, DSAC is working on finalizing the legal framework for its structure and activities, proposing development policies, and promoting international cooperation to support businesses in these fields.
