Samsung cooperates with government to train experts, consultants

Improving the capacity of advisory teams and experts is key to improving competitiveness and facilitating the participation of supporting industry enterprises in the global supply chain.

Enhancing capacity for businesses

With that goal in mind, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has recently coordinated with Samsung Vietnam to implement a project on training, consulting and production quality improvement for 140 supporting industry enterprises in Vietnam.

From 2018 to 2020, the two sides trained more than 327 Vietnamese consultants in the field. In 2020, Samsung also launched a four-year project to train 200 experts in molds in order to improve the competitiveness of Vietnam's molding industry.

Deputy Director of the Industry Agency under the MoIT Pham Tuan Anh believes enterprises participating in the program have increased productivity, reduced the rate of errors and inventories, promising long-term and sustainable development.

Local support needed

However, limited resources prevented large scale implementation of the program. On average, the agency can only provide consultancy for about 100 (out of 4,840) supporting industry businesses a year. To accelerate global supply chain access, localities must also play a role. “The state agencies build a model to which localities can effectively refer to create improvements and innovations,” said the Industry Agency leader.

The development of separate policies and investment remains restricted by short-term vision and have not fully complied with the long-term development orientations of the Party and the State.

For example, only Hai Duong and Bac Ninh provinces have been coordinating with the MoIT and Samsung Vietnam to carry out the program. Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Chair Nguyen Huong Giang said that innovation has never been easy, but urged businesses in Bac Ninh and other provinces to consider this model.

The MoIT is also concentrating on training highly qualified human resources. Pham Tuan Anh said the MoIT and Samsung Vietnam Complex continue to train Vietnamese consulting specialists in the field of production and quality innovation to help businesses improve their competitiveness and capacity and enable them to participate in supply chains of multinational corporations, including Samsung.

The MoIT has determined that highly qualified human resources play a key role in the development of enterprises. Therefore, the ministry is implementing training programs to improve the quality of human resources for support industries.
