Shares climb in morning session
Shares climbed on Tuesday morning thanks to the rally of heavy-weight stocks.
The benchmark VN-Index in the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange gained 0.25 per cent to close at 914.79 points.
It had increased 0.38 per cent to close Monday at 911.72 per cent.
Nearly 256.2 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VND4.6 trillion (US$199 million).
Market breadth was neutral with 185 decliners and 188 gainers.
The VN30-Index, which tracks the performance of the 30 largest stocks by market capitalisation and liquidity on HoSE, increased 0.58 per cent to close Tueday morning at 868.30 points.
In the VN-30 basket, 16 stocks lost ground and nine increased while five remained flat.
The growth of some individual large-cap stocks helped the market recover and stay positive, such as Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BID), HDBank (HDB), Hoa Phat Group (HPG), Mobile World Group (MWG), SSI Securities Incorporation (SSI) and Vinamilk (VNM).
The minor HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange rose 0.03 per cent to end Tuesday morning at 133.16 points.
More than 36.5 million shares were traded on the northern exchange, worth VND547.4 billion.
