Ha Noi strives for higher industry and trade growth in 2020
The capital city this year aims to increase industry's added value by 8.8 per cent, exports by 8 per cent and total retail sales and service revenue by 10.8 per cent over the previous year.
The goals were announced at a meeting to review the city’s industry and trade sector in 2019 and announce the sector’s plan in 2020 in Ha Noi on Tuesday.
To reach the targets, the city’s Department of Industry and Trade should continue to review legal documents on the industry and trade sector to suggest new policies and regulations to better facilitate the sector’s development, said municipal People’s Committee vice chairman Nguyen Doan Toan.
For the industry area, the department should concentrate on luring more investment into the city’s industrial zones and hi-tech parks with a focus on perfecting their infrastructure, Toan said.
Meanwhile, for trade, the department should implement solutions to promote modern trade, rebuild traditional markets and foster construction development of logistics projects, trade centres and supermarkets, as well as strengthen supervision of trade, especially traditional markets, he added.
It should also strengthen trade promotion to develop and exploit both traditional and potential markets for highly competitive and valuable products, high added value or product groups with a large proportion of export turnover.
The department’s report showed the industry’s added value of the city rose by 10.1 per cent year-on-year in 2019; industrial production growth saw a positive yearly rise of 8.45 per cent while export turnover surged 26 per cent year-on-year.
During the year, the city led localities nationwide in terms of foreign investment attraction with $8.46 billion. Last year, it also saw more than 27,900 new enterprises established, up 11 per cent year-on-year.
Up to now, there are 25 shopping centres, 141 supermarkets and about 1,400 convenience stores, and 455 markets in the city.
