Shares volatile as market corrects

Shares moved in opposite directions on Wednesday morning on the two stock exchanges due to strong profit-taking pressure.

 

The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange tumbled 0.39 per cent to close at 991.32 points. It rose 0.33 per cent on Tuesday.

The HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange gained 0.11 per cent to end at 112.36 points. It advanced 0.56 per cent on Tuesday.

More than 119 million shares were exchanged on the two bourses, worth VND2.4 trillion (US$103 million).

Market trading was negative with 152 gaining stocks and 237 decliners.

Among the worst-performing sectors were securities, mining and real estate. Those sector indices were down slightly between 0.1 per cent and 0.8 per cent, data on vietstock.vn showed.

The blue-chip VN30 Index, which tracks the 30 largest shares by market capitalisation, was down 0.3 per cent to 968.09 points.

Among the decliners were PetroVietnam Gas JSC (GAS), FPT Corporation (FPT), KIDO Group (KDC), Nova Land Investment Group Corporation (NVL), Vietnam National Petroleum Group (PLX), Vinhomes (VHM), Vingroup (VIC) and Vincom Retail (VRE).

The afternoon trading session starts at 1pm.
