Shares up on blue-chips
Shares started the week on a positive note thanks to the strong gains of large caps.
The benchmark VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange rose 0.65 per cent to close at 993.47 points. It made a weekly gain of 1.9 per cent last week.
The HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange gained 0.51 per cent to end at 112.19 points. It had made an increase of 3.33 per cent last week.
More than 142.6 million shares were exchanged on the two bourses, worth VND2.9 trillion (US$127.4 million).
Market trading was positive with 205 gaining stocks and 183 decliners.
Among the best-performing sectors were securities, mining and insurance-finance. Those sector indices were up between 1.71 per cent and 3.17 per cent, data on vietstock.vn showed.
The blue-chip VN30 Index, which tracks the 30 largest shares by market capitalisation, was up 0.84 per cent to 968.52 points.
Among the gainers were property developer Vingroup (VIC) and its sub-unit Vincom Retail (VRE), insurer Bảo Việt Holdings (BVH), brewery Sabeco (SAB), budget carrier Vietjet (VJC) and dairy giant Vinamilk (VNM).
