China expo promoting trade and economic exchange
Kunming, Yunnan province: The 4th China-South Asia Expo and the 24th China Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair officially commenced on Sunday drawing round 8,000 booths from exhibitors from over 80 countries around the world, including Laos.
The 4th Expo and the 24th Kunming Fair are taking place from June 12-17, one day longer than previous events with all of today devoted to exhibitions and match-making among professional buyers from around the world.
The significant event is co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the People's government of Yunnan province, under the theme of ‘Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefits, Inclusiveness and Win-Win Cooperation', aiming to promote trade and economic exchanges between China, Yunnan in particular, South Asia, Southeast Asia and the rest of the world.
This year, over 100 exhibitors from 43 Lao companies have brought their products, including timber, organic rice, coffee, jewellery, beer and other items to exhibit at the fairs hoping to attract buyers, especially Chinese.
A total of 18 pavilions are now put to use for the fairs compared to 13 last year and exhibition areas have also grown from 130,000 m2 to 180,000 m2.
Half all exhibitors are from overseas with 155 renowned enterprises joining the exhibition, an increase of 78 percent compared with 87 last year. There are 13 Fortune Global 500 listed companies exhibiting like Kia, LG, Foxconn, Huawei, and China Resources.
During the expo and fair, the host country will organise various contract signing ceremonies, including special ones for different localities of the province. It is expected total contract value this year will increase by over 10 percent compared to 2015.
Sunday's opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of China Mr Wang Yang, Mayor of Yunnan province Mr Chen Hao, Vice President of Nepal Mr Nanda Bahadur Pun, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Dr Sonexay Siphandone, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Mr Trinh Dinh Dung, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Mr Hor Namhong and other invited guests.
