Three Hanoi infrastructure projects certified with JICA President Award

Three infrastructure projects in Hanoi, all funded by Japanese aid, are among winners of an award granted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to recognize their contributory roles in the local eco-social development.

The Vietnamese winners of the JICA President Award include the establishment of the international gateway in Hanoi thorough Noi Bai International Airport, the Nhat Tan Bridge, also known as Vietnam-Japan Friendship Bridge, and the connecting road between the airport and the bridge, according to JICA.

The awards were granted to the three winners, all completed with the official development assistance (ODA) loans by Japan, by the JICA in Hanoi on Friday.

The JICA President Award is handed over to projects, experts or volunteers to honor their outstanding results for JICA’s activities, the Japanese agency said in a press release.

This year, nine projects, four individuals and one group are selected as winners of the award, whereas 12 individuals and seven groups are granted the JICA Recognition Award, according to JICA.

The Recognition Award is granted to individuals or groups to express JICA’s gratitude for the cooperation and/or long-standing contribution to JICA/JICA’s activities.

Both of the JICA awards are handed over in the 11th JICA President Commendation, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the development of human resources, society and the economy of developing countries, according to the Japanese agency.

The other recipients of the awards are based in Nepal, Campuchia, India, Ethiopia, Chile, Bangladesh and Jordan

The three Vietnamese projects, inaugurated on January 4 and collectively worth nearly US$2 billion, are the country’s key traffic infrastructure investment.

They have indeed helped to improve the international gateway to Hanoi, contributing to increase the capital’s investment environment.
