Gov't to invest in nine border gates

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has selected nine major border-gate economic zones (BEZs) as priorities to allocate government budget from 2016 to 2020.

The nine economic zones comprise Mong Cai BEZ (Quang Ninh Province), Dong Dang-Lang Son BEZ (Lang Son Province), Lao Cai BEZ (Lao Cai Province), and Cao Bang BEZ, in addition to Cau Treo BEZ (Ha Tinh Province), and Cha Lo BEZ (Quang Binh Province). Lao Bao special BEZ (Quang Tri Province), Moc Bai BEZ (Tay Ninh Province), and An Giang BEZ, make up the list of nine.

The prime minister requested that at least 70 per cent of the total government budget will be distributed amongst the BEZs in the five-year plan from 2016 to 2020.

Following the prime minister's assignment, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will collaborate with the Ministry of Finance to plan the budget allocation. Priorities will be given to urgent construction projects in each zone.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment will oversee the budget allocation process and report directly to the prime minister. The reports must be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020.

The People's Committees of the provinces and cities under the Central Government will also abide by the investment regulations and also ensure that disbursement and project development will be on schedule.

Previously, the prime minister had agreed to invest the state budget on eight coastal economic zones from 2016 to 2020.
