TH Group highlights its organic production

TH Group has received organic certificates of Europe and the US for its safe vegetables and medical herbs from Control Union, which is a global one-stop-shop for a wide range of certification programmes, and signed an agreement with this organisation on implementing its organic fresh milk products.

Control Union has conferred Europe’s EC 834/2007 certificate and the US’ USDA-NOP certificate to TH Group in organic production of 37 types of organic safe vegetables and five types of medicinal herbs.

Organic production means promotion and enhancement of biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity.

This has turned TH Group into Vietnam’s trailblazer in implementing organic standards of Europe and the US. The conferral came after TH Group has applied these standards in producing safe vegetables and medicinal herbs within one year at its farms in the central province of Nghe An’s Nghia Dan district.

The cultivation of the vegetables and herbs been conducted in compliance with the most stringent standards of the world, which have turned them into international-standard products.

Meanwhile, the agreement is about examining and granting an organic certificate to TH Group’s organic fresh milk products. TH is now also the first in Vietnam to make these products.

“The fact that TH Group receives at the same time two prestigious certificates and applies organic production to its fresh milk products has been a great pride not only for TH, but also for Vietnam’s agricultural sector,” said Hoang Thanh Van, head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Livestock Production.

Riekele Leonard De Boer, managing director of Control Union Vietnam, said that the usage of organic products had become a big trend in the world.

“A growing number of organic products are being produced in Vietnam. TH Group has been a model firm in producing agricultural products whose quality can be accepted throughout Europe and the US,” he said.

Currently TH Group is operating a $1.2 billion project to raise dairy cows and make fresh milk in late 2009 in Nghia Dan. Employing 1,300 local workers and backed by financial and investment consultant BAC A BANK, the project currently has 45,000 dairy cows, of which over 22,000 are milked.

Before the project is implemented, 92 per cent of Vietnam’s milk was imported from abroad. Now this figure stands at 72 per cent thanks to TH Group’s contribution.

The group will also build a $2.7 billion hi-tech concentrated dairy and fresh milk production project in Russia’s Moscow early next year.
