The effort will focus on enhancing tourism, with the Tran Hung Dao Statue area as a central attraction.

During a meeting on District 1’s socio-economic development, Duoc stressed that the city’s night-time economy should go beyond dining and drinking.

Instead, he called for activities that highlight Ho Chi Minh City’s cultural identity, similar to signature performances seen in other major tourist destinations.

District 1, he said, should establish designated routes for street performances while incorporating a sidewalk economy. He urged officials to seek private investment and consult experts to develop a comprehensive plan.

In addition to the riverfront project, the discussion included expanding night-time services on Nguyen Hue Street and Le Loi Boulevard.

Duoc suggested attracting investments in entertainment options that could complement the frequent public events hosted in the area.

He cited a proposal for a riverside cinema park as an example of an initiative that could both enhance the night-time economy and showcase the city’s culture.

The chairman also addressed urban planning concerns, supporting District 1’s request to redevelop Ga Market and Gao Market.

While acknowledging the district’s relative development, he pointed out areas such as Ga Market, Gao Market, and Ma Lang that remain underdeveloped.

Duoc instructed the Department of Construction to propose solutions for revitalizing these neighborhoods.

He urged bold decision-making and regulatory flexibility where necessary to improve the urban landscape, boost economic activity, and enhance residents’ quality of life.
