Audi opens third showroom in Vietnam as sales spike
German carmaker Audi inaugurated a new showroom of its luxury automobiles on Monday in the central city of Da Nang, the third of its kind in the middle-income country.
The 2,500 square meter Da Nang showroom, triple the of its original venue in Ho Chi Minh City, is capable of displaying eight Audi vehicles, and has areas for repair and component stocking.
The German automobile manufacturer opened its first-ever Vietnamese showroom in Ho Chi Minh City in 2008, and another in Hanoi five years later.
The latest facility is built using German technology and standards at a total cost of US$2.5 million, and is equipped with tools and machines imported from Germany.
Local Audi owners can also have their luxury vehicles repaired, washed or repainted at the Da Nang showroom.
Along with the new showroom opening, Audi Vietnam also introduced the Audi Q7 with the latest-generation engine 2.0 TFSI.
TFSI stands for turbo fuel stratified injection, which denotes a type of forced-aspiration engine where the fuel is pressure-injected straight into the combustion chamber in such a way as to create a stratified charge.
The 2.0 TFSI engine allows the Audi Q7 to have a zero-to-100kph acceleration time of only 7.1 seconds, and cuts fuel consumption by 28 percent compared to the previous generation to 7.4 liters per 100km.
The Audi Q7 2.0 TFSI has a starting price of more than VND3 billion (US$133,929), with delivery slated for January 2016.
Audi vehicles are officially imported into Vietnam by the Automotive Asia Ltd. Co., a joint-venture registered in Hong Kong with CFAO Group as the main shareholder, whereas Lien-A International JSC is the official Audi dealer in the country.
The luxury automobiles fetch between VND1.2 billion ($53,571) and VND4.7 billion ($209,821) in Vietnam, where GDP per capita was $2,052 in 2014.
In 2013 Audi’s sales in Vietnam grew 80 percent year on year to 600 units, while the figure in 2014 was more than 800 cars.
The German carmaker received as many as 45 orders at the 2015 Vietnam International Motor Show in October, Vietnam’s biggest automobile show of the year.
