Public, private sectors learn how to access trade information
Representatives from public and private sectors in Vientiane and provinces are attending a training session on how to use the Lao PDR Trade Portal (LTP) to access and search for trade information.
The two-day training was opened yesterday in the capital and organised by the Department of Import and Export, Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The Lao PDR Trade Portal is the single access point for all information relating to importing and exporting for the country along with the transit of goods.
In the portal, traders will be able to get information about all the regulatory requirements they need to fulfil in order to carry out their transactions such as presidential edicts, decrees, orders, instructions, decisions, notifications, provisions, and other import, export and transit related procedures.
After establishment of the Lao PDR Trade Portal in 2012, the department has continuously organised trainings on how to use the LTP for public and private sectors across the country to access and search for information related to importing and exporting, especially legal and regulation documents, procedures, forms and other trade related news and information.
The main objective was to build understanding within the public and private sectors on how to use the portal so they could effectively use it in managin g work related to imports and exports and business operation, Department Deputy Director Mr Khemdeth Sihavong said as chair.
LTP reflects an attempt of the government to improve the predictability and transparency of the import and export process in Laos.
“However, it is a new tool which requires continuous improvement to make it more effective and sustainable and it should be used widely,” he added.
“The government sector should pay attention to disseminating and giving advice on how to best use this trade information for private sectors so they will understand the benefits and be able to use the information effectively,” Mr Khemdeth said.
“Above all it is to ensure our readiness for the upcoming Asean Economic Community at the end of this year,” he added.
