5th AMMin adopts important documents
Ministers on minerals from Asean member countries considered and adopted several important documents and regulations at the 5th Asean Ministerial Meeting on Minerals (5th AMMin) in Vientiane.
The meeting which ended yesterday adopted the Joint Ministerial Statement of the 5th AMMin, the Report of the 5th AMMin held on September 10, 2015 in Vientiane, and the brief on the finalisation of the Asean Mineral Cooperation Action Plan (AMCAP-3), 2016-2025 Phase 1 2016-2020.
The meeting considered the briefing from the Asean Secretariat on the main directives pertaining to Asean community building arising from previous Asean Summits and other Asean cooperation bodies.
It considered the reports of 14th Asean Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals (ASOMM) and 7th ASOMM+3 on the outcomes and recommendations arising from the meeting held in October 2014 in Cambodia on the key developments in the Asean minerals cooperation areas of trade and investment in minerals, institutional and human capacity building, environmental and social sustainable mineral development, information and database, and the Asean Minerals Trust Fund.
The meeting also considered the reports from the 15th ASOMM and 8th ASOMM+3 on the outcomes and recommendations arising from the meetings held on September 8-9, 2015 in particular and on the key achievements and accomplishments.
In addition it considered and endorsed the rules and procedures of the Asean Minerals Trust Fund adopted by the 15th ASOMM held in October 2014 in Siem Reap, Cambodia, to support the implementation of the Asean Minerals Cooperation Action Plan.
The meeting also considered the brief on the Asean Federation of Mining Associations' activities in 2014-2015 as well as its ASOMM related work plan and activities to enhance closer interaction and cooperation between private sector players and officials of the public sector responsible for the development of Asean mineral resources.
Myanmar advised the meeting on the date and venue of the 6th AMMin in Myanmar.
“The key topics that we have discussed are very meaningful and important for the Asean member states in strengthening Asean minerals development and the ability to compete internationally,” Minister of Energy and Mines Mr Khammany Inthirath said.
“Laos recognises the importance of the discussions and outcomes of the meetings. We believe that the achievements made in the 5th AMMin enhance the collaboration of Asean member states under the framework of the AMCAP-3 (2016-2020) phase 1 and cooperation with the People's Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea has been enhanc ed to a new level of connectivity, not only for the AEC, but also for Asian integration in the region,” he said.
