Officials from Asean member countries have gathered in Yangon, Myanmar to discuss air transport cooperation in the region.

The 32ndAsean Air Transport Working Group (32nd ATWG) meeting was officially opened yesterday morning with the participants coming from the civil aviation departments and airlines of each country.

A Lao delegate told Vientiane Times by telephone that the purpose of the meeting was to increase air transport cooperation that would lead to a boundary-free, open sky in the future.

After the start of the meeting the participants will attend to their sub meetings for discussions on many related issues such as Asean air transport economic cooperation, Asean air transport technical cooperation, Asean air transport sector negotiations and an Asean airlines meeting.

The official said that the results of the sub meetings would be submitted to the 32nd ATWG meeting on its last day on September 18.

Future Asean Air Transport Working Group meetings will be held twice a year and in 2016 and 2107 Laos will host four similar meetings.
