The managers of licensed Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) and Savings and Credit Unions (SCUs) can now build their capacity through a tailour made management course.

The Microfinance Association (MFA) in partnership with the Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL) are pleased to provide the very first 29 day national Microfinance Management Certificate Course (MFMCC).
The training officially opened yeste rday at the Lao Plaza hotel, Vientiane, which was chaired by the Deputy Governor of the Bank of the Lao PDR, Mr Sonexay Sithphaxay.
Director General of the Financial Institution Supervision Department, Dr Akhom Praseuth and representatives of donors and chairwomen of the MFA also attended the event.
The country currently has 83 microfinance institutions serving more than 100,000 clients.
This unique course will strengthen the capacities of leaders from licensed MFIs and will help to professionalise microfinance operations.
This will have a stabilising impact both on institutions and the financial sector in Laos.
The training will be facilitated by the MFMCC local trainers' team, who were certified in early September 2015.
The training participants include around 28 representatives of local microfinance institutions, staff of the Financial Institutions Supervision Department and BOL.
The 1st batch of the long awaited cours e will be delivered from September 21-25 at the Lao Plaza hotel and will be provided throughout the year.
The course is composed of eight modules: basics of microfinance, business and strategic planning, human resource management and leadership, credit and delinquency management, MFI management and governance, financial and social performance management, product development and compliance and internal control.
At the end of the course the participants have to pass the test with a grade of at least 70 percent to comply with regulations and internal control.
The Design and Development and Training of Trainers was financially supported by the NGO ADA Luxembourg and the German Government through GIZ-AFP.
