Bank staff beef up on life insurance

The Agricultural Promotion Bank of Laos (APB) is cooperating with Dhipaya Insurance Co., Ltd. of Thailand to provide training for banking staff to ensure they can provide professional service and advice on insurance and life insurance for customers.

The training course was held in Luang Prabang province last weekend bringing more than 150 staff from both organisations.

According to a press release, the training focused on general knowledge, sales, service and types of insurance and life insurance to ensure all participants can explain and provide services to customers.

APB recently signed a cooperation agreement with Dhipaya Insurance Co., Ltd. to offer life insurance packages for customers in Laos as the country opens up to Asean Economic Community integration.

The cooperation is an important step in the banking business and the life insurance area and will help to open Asean regional cooperation in line with economic expansion in the region.

The cooperation will allow both organisations to provide services and advice on insurance and life insurance to customers, which is a new service set to be offered in every province throughout the country.

Tipaya will promote life insurance in Laos in the second half of the year. These products were not given immediate priority as their premium income is likely to be lower than from non-life products.

Dhipaya aims for total premium income of US$6 million (195 million baht) in the first year of operation of the Lao venture.

“In previous activities and further activities in the future the company will adhere to the idea that customers are important and that we will serve them as satisfyingly as we can,” the company's Managing Director Mr Boochai Boonyanurak said.
