BCEL, Krungsri connect for ATM pool

Banque of pour le Commerce Exterieur Lao Public (BCEL) recently continued to rollout its ATM pool system with Krungsri Bank to promote better services for customers.

Krungsri is the 4th private bank and 8th bank in Laos to comp lete the integration of the ATM network under the Bconnex Project since the initial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing on the ATM pool system in 2013.

Bconnex Project includes BCEL, Lao-Viet Bank, Agriculture and Promotion Bank, Lao Development Bank, Joint Development Bank, ST Bank, Maruh an Japan Bank Lao, and now Krungsri Bank.

Previously, BCEL and Krungsri had a special reciprocal arrangement which enabled holders of BCEL's ATM cards, CUP cards, and Visa cards to withdraw cash at Krungsri ATM's with a discounted fee of 20 percent per time, while Krungsri CUP and Visa cardholders could also withdraw from BCEL machines.

Now Krungsri ATM cardholders can withdraw cash using their ATM cards issued in Laos at the ATMs of all banks participating in the Bconnex project around the country.

This cooperative project of domestic banks allows them to modernise and offer better customer service as they prepare themselves for integration with the AEC while highlighting their capacity to offer greater convenience.

At present, there are 750 ATMs in Laos to serve all cardholders under the Bconnex project.

Managing Director of Krungsri Bank of Ayudhya PCL, Mr Masaaki Suzuki said the initiative marked another milestone for Krungsri, being the 1st Thai bank to join the Lao ATM pool under the Bconnex network.

Bconnex would allow customers to instantly withdraw cash in Lao kip and to check their account balances by accessing 750 ATMs in Laos.

Last year, Krungsri partnered with BECL, and successfully linked their two ATM networks between Thailand and Laos. BCEL cardholders are now able to withdraw Thai Baht at Krungsri's 5,300 ATMs in Thailand.

The ATM pool network or Bconnex now covers around 90 percent of Laos.
