Car wash businesses cleaning up

Car wash businesses are getting busier as roads in Vientiane are still substandard, especially during the rainy season, and the number of vehicles is growing.

The number of vehicles in Vientiane totals 661,612 with motorcycles constituting the largest number with 462,851 registered this year, according to Vientiane Vehicle Control Unit Department.

An owner of Complex Car Wash, Mr Noy recently shared his opinion that rainy season was much busier than the dry season thanks to the muddy unsealed roads on Vientiane's outskirts.

Since opening for business three years ago he has seen the number of customers substantially increase from year to year, which showed the number of motorists who cared about their vehicles had also increased.

Last year the business was cleaning 4-5 cars per day on weekdays but that had now grown to between 10-20 cars a day and around 30 cars a day on weekends.

In the rainy season, his business cleans around 200 cars a week, and expects it will continue to serve more customers until October.

Services start from 30,000 kip depending on the vehicle's s.

At present, there were sufficient car wash outlets to share the market, but he believed there was still more room for other competitors as the number of cars would also increase over the next five years.

Over three out of every four people; men, women and children will soon have a vehicle of some kind of vehicle in the capital.

More and more motorists are now purchasing the latest models and taking much better care of their vehicles compared to five years ago. Unfortunately, roads in the capital today still remain unsatisfactory and this will continue to drive car wash business growth.

However, with growth comes increased competition and many outlets are now offering upgraded services to lure clientele. Prices should remain reasonable into the future as businesses eagerly vie for customers.
