Work begins on Bac Giang-Lang Son road

The construction of a 63.8km-section of the Bac Giang-Lang Son Expressway and the strengthening of 110km of National Road 1's surface began yesterday in the Lang Son Province.

The VND12-trillion (US$550 million) expressway route, which is a part of the 152km Ha Noi - Lang Son Expressway from Ha Noi to Lang Son Province's Huu Nghi Bordergate, will play an important role in the socio-economic development of the northern region.

Speaking at the project groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai urged investors and localities to speed up land clearance and ensure financial and material resources for the project. The transport ministry has been requested to closely supervise and strictly handle violations.

"The project aims to meet the increasing demand for transport, and reduce traffic jams and accidents. It will boost socio-economic development and ensure security and national defence in both Bac Giang and Lang Son provinces," Bac Giang People's Committee Deputy Chairman Lai Thanh Son said.

The 25m-wide Bac Giang-Lang Son Expressway has four lanes with a speed limit of 100km per hour.

The National Road 1 section has a speed limit of 60km to 80km per hour.

Five toll stations are scheduled to be established along the Bac Giang-Lang Son Expressway, while two will be set up along National Road 1.

The project will be built on a BOT (build-operate-transfer) basis by the Bac Giang-Lang Son BOT joint investors, including UDIC Investment JSC, the one-member SCIC Investment Ltd Company, Phuong Thanh Investment and Construction JSC, and 468 Investment JSC, as well as Number One Transport and Construction JSC and My Da Construction Company.

The project is scheduled to be completed by 2017.
