Singapore international hospital opens in Golden Triangle SEZ
The new Singapore Orient International Hospital has been officially opened for public service in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (Golden Triangle SEZ) in Tonpheung district, Bokeo province.
An opening ceremony took place on July 9 and was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Dr Phankham Viphavanh, deputy ministers of relevant ministries, the provincial governor, the president of the Golden Triangle SEZ and relevant officials.
President of the Golden Triangle SEZ Mr Chao Wei stated that the new hospital is fully up to modern international standards and was a joint venture of Nago Investment Co., Ltd and Nago Medical Fund.
The hospital has imported computer assisted tomography and other medical equipment from America which is state of the art.
He said that currently the hospital has emergency services, internal and external medicine, OB/GYN and Chinese medicine facilities and the medical staff includes both domestic and international doctors with experience in a wide range of healthcare services including oncology and cancer treatment.
From now on the people in Bokeo and its neighbouring provinces will able to access modern, international standards of medical treatment at this hospital, he said.
In the next three years the company plans to extend the hospital into a complex covering 67 hectares, adding many more specialities, including cardiology, so that it will be able to build confidence in investors, tourists and local people.
The Golden Triangle SEZ has been designed to transform a fairly remote area into a new urban one, aiming to become a centre of tourism, trade and services within the Mekong sub-region touched by the four countries of Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and China.
It is located in the Tonpheung district of Bokeo province linking with Chiang Rai in Thailand via the 4th Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge.
The zone covers 10,000 hectares of which 3,000 have been used for business development with 7,000 hectares held as a national reservation area planned to be developed into a natural park, according to the Lao National Committee for Special Economic Zones (NCSEZ).
So far 45 companies and 217 shops both domestic and foreign have invested in the zone, with total registered capital having reached over US$77 million.
The zone has generated jobs for 162 local people and 6,000 foreigners.
