Deputy PM pushes for productivity in Khammuan province

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic affairs, Mr Somsavat Lengsavad visited a rice production project backed by a Chinese company in Khammuan province on Sunday to see firsthand its operations.

The company – Beidahuang Group is investing US$5 million in the project on a 600 hectare concession located at Nakatang village in Yommalath district of Khammuan province.
Following his arrival, Mr Somsavat was welcomed by President of the Beidahuang Group, Mr Wamg Kejian and other members of the company board. Khammuan province has been defined by the government as one of the main rice production regions nationally due to its suitability for the crop.
Started late last year, the project aims to supply agricultural produce including rice to the domestic market and for export to China.
This year, the Chinese company plans to plant 50 hectares of rice with 10 hectares planted so far. The company is also preparing to sow 100 hectares of pasture grass for livestock husbandry plus plant 50 hectares of Moringa trees and commercial trees in the near future.
