Major Cineplex Group opening soon in the capital

A new movie theatre complex is opening soon in Vientiane to take entertainment in the city to world class standards.

The cinema will open at the end of this month on the fourth floor of the Vientiane Center with the new blockbuster film, Mission Impossible 5 - Rogue Nation.

This new world class theatre in Vientiane will have a leading technology company as its naming sponsor and be known as “Major Platinum Cineplex by Huawei”.

“Major Platinum Cineplex” is a joint venture between Major Cineplex and Platinum Cineplex with Major having the majority share at the newly opened World Class Vientiane Center.

CEO of Major Cineplex Group Mr Vicha Poolvaraluk, revealed recently that its current 544 screens will be increased to an estimated 1,000 by the end of the decade of which about 100 will be located outside of Thailand.

The new project in Vientiane will contain about 1,150 seats in five halls and offer the best and brightest 3D available. The project is about 4,550 square metres and will offer other entertainment facilities. The initial fit out costing of over 12,500 million kip will ensure the highest level of equipment and finishing.

“The country is quickly developing which means people are looking for more entertainment options and Major Platinum Cineplex will change the entertainment landscape in Laos. A growing city with a population of over 700,000 is ready for the world class entertainment experience,” he added.

“We are pleased to be supported by Huawei and Coke (so far) as they wish to develop their markets in Laos with quality products. Although we would be happy with 300,000 annual attendances, we may be surprised as we were in Cambodia and do even better.

We will screen Hollywood movies with both English and Thai soundtracks and many popular Thai and Lao movies, all with subtitles.”

“Major Cineplex currently has about 544 screens open in 84 locations and Platinum has over 40 screens in the region and conducts much of the film distribution in the region. Our Partnership in Cambodia showed that we bring the best facilities, service and films to the market,” he said.
