ODOP Fair promotes local products to national, international markets
The second One District One Product (ODOP) Fair will take place next week with the aim of helping to promote local products for national and international markets.
The trade fair will run from May 28 to June 1 under the promotion policy for SME products of Vientiane at Lao-ITECC.
The trade fair will feature various products and handicrafts produced under the ODOP initiative in Laos.
This year's event will feature 30 booths showing handicrafts, food and drinks from 22 business units, while another 120 booths will exhibit model family products from 64 business units that are going to receive ODOP recognition soon.
In addition to this, there will be another 150 booths showing and selling various food items and other goods from 86 business units.
There will also be four business units from Borikhamxay, Khammuan, Savannakhet and Champassak provinces showing their ODOP products of handicrafts and furniture at the event. The fair is one of the activities that the department has organised in response to the Party and state strategy for goods production and promotion based on preserving local intellectual property rights and increasing the value of the ODOPs, Vientiane Industry and Commerce Department Director Mr Berlin Phetchantharath said recently.
The event is part of efforts being made to enhance the existing potential of ODOP products in preparation for market sales, he added.
Mr Berlin noted that this was the second fair for ODOP and model family products, with the first having been held last year.
At the first fair only ten business units showed their ODOP products, but this year the number has increased noticeably.
He said some Lao ODOP products are now being widely recognised in domestic markets and in some international ones as well.
Some ODOP products in particular, such as fermented fish, healthy drinks and furniture are selling well in neighbouring countries like Thailand, China, and Cambodia.
So far 20 business units from seven districts in Vientiane have been awarded national ODOP certificates, with most of the awards going to businesses in Xaysettha district.
This week there will be four more business units that will receive ODOP recognition.
After the fair the department will recheck the business units to ensure their ODOP products still comply with the standards required, according to the department.
