Lao officials trained on business etiquette

The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs has funded a training course on Business Etiquette and Professional Image for twelve Lao government officials at the Lao-Singapore Training Centre from May 11 to 14.

The course was conducted by Ms Abigail Prior Levy, Ms Judith Ann Lee from the BlueTrack Centre in Singapore, which is known for its executive education courses and signature business-to-business events that share thought and leadership in the areas of communication, leadership, strategy and management.

Ms Gracia Tan, First Secretary at the Singapore Embassy in Vientiane, attended the closing ceremony, according to a press release from the embassy.

Through the use of lectures, discussions and group exercises, the four-day course taught participants how to plan, manage and conduct official meetings.

They were also advised on how to navigate business etiquette, cultural norms and communication, as well as providing tips on grooming and managing their professional image.

The topic was chosen for its r elevance given the large number of official events and meetings that are expected with the Lao PDR's assumption of the Asean Chairmanship next year. The course was conducted pursuant to the Initiative for Asean Integration (IAI). Under the IAI, Singapore conducts 25 to 30 courses a year at the Lao-Singapore training Centre, focusing on areas of public governance, finance, urban management, hospitality and tourism, civil aviation, as well as IT skills and English.

About 600 Lao officials are trained each year and more than 10,000 government officials have benefited from the Ministry's various training programmes under the Singapore Cooperation Programme since 1993.
