Leading Korean hypermarket to enter Viet Nam

Leading Korean retailer Emart on March 31 unveiled its plan to open its first Emart hypermarket in Viet Nam in HCM City's Go Vap District, one of the most populous areas in HCM City, with total investment capital of US$60 million.

Choi Kwang Ho, general director of Emart Viet Nam, said Emart would cooperate with about 1,000 local suppliers for the first hypermarket.

Speaking at Emart Partners' Day, Ho introduced Korea's No.1 hypermarket with more than 20 years of experience.

He said Emart was looking for high-quality products in various categories, including food, apparel and household goods.

The hypermarket, covering an area of 30,000 sq.m, will include direct sale areas of 6,000 sq.m, and entertainment areas with a restaurant, play room and game room.

Emart has also secured a second site in Tan Phu District to build another store.

More than 300 distributors and manufacturers in Vietnam attended the Emart's event.
