First exhibition of Turkish products kicks off in town
Around 50 Turkish businesses have joined the first-ever exhibition for their own products at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7.
The 4-day event is one of the activities the Government of Turkey has included in the agenda of key national trade promotion program, said Mr. Dursun Topcu, Vice President of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce at a press conference introducing the exhibition on Monday.
The exhibition – from December 3 to December 6, 2014 - showcases many Turkish products ranging from machinery to household goods, industrial products and agricultural, electrical appliances, electronics, chemicals, to building materials, interior decorations, food beverages, industrial plastic products, and souvenirs.
During the exhibition, there will be a business-to-business session (B2B) between Turkish businesses with their potential Vietnamese partners who are interested in Turkish goods. The program is expected to provide efficient communication channel so that related parties can reach agreement or sign contracts right at the exhibition.
According to the organization, in parallel with the exhibition, a series of cultural events will be held such as the performances of traditional dance of Turkish with 10 outstanding artists from folk dance group Tuana with three performances per day during the exhibition.
In addition, a glass blowing artist and traditional water-painting artist of this country will also perform at this exhibition.
According to the Turkish Ambassador in Vietnam, Mr. Ahmet Akif Oktay, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Turkey in 2013 increased by 61 times compared to 2000 to reach US$ 1.7 billion, of which Turkish exports to Vietnam was at only about $107 million in the past year.
Particularly, in the first 9 months of this year, bilateral trade between the two countries reached $1.6 billion and is expected to reach approximately $2 billion by the end of this year, in which goods from Vietnam continued to play the main part in bilateral trade revenue.
Mr. Ahmet Akif Oktay said Turkey's investment in Vietnam is still low, only about $ 71 million through 11 projects. He hopes the Turkish capital pouring into Vietnam will increase in the future when Vietnam allows foreign direct investment (FDI) in projects in sectors like healthcare, tourism, energy, and transport.
