Lao-Thai JV introduces aluminium transformers
Panco Electric Industry Co. Ltd. of Laos and the Thai QTC Energy Public Company Ltd are sharing the cost of establishing a factory in Laos to produce transformers made from aluminium.
The factory is under construction at Km 21 in Vientiane, the Manager of Panco Electric Industry Co. Ltd., Mr Sichanh Phongsavath, told the Vientiane Times.
The two companies last week introduced the new product to Electricite du Laos (EDL) and handed over two units with capacities of 50KVA and 100KVA.
These will be tested by EDL for use in its own investment projects and it will order more from the joint venture if the product proves as effective as claimed.
A seminar to introduce the new product was co-chaired by EDL Deputy General Director, Mr Bountham Senphansri, and the Pr esident of Panco, Mr Somboun Siharath.
The event was supported by QTC and attended by representatives from electrical installation companies and EDL branches around the country.
Aluminium t ransformers are widely accepted internationally and their cost is considerably lower than transformers made from copper, according to the QTC presentation.
The product is called an amorphous transformer as it uses an amorphous core. It has many cost advantages which result in a pay-back period of about 3 to 5 years. An additional benefit is that it reduce s the potential contribution to global warming.
QTC Energy Public Company Ltd is the major aluminium transformer producer in Thailand and is currently supplying various companies in Thailand, Malaysia and Australia.
