Chinese packing machine maker eyes Lao market
Wenzhou Kedi Machinery Company Limited, a China based-packaging machine manufacturer and distributor in China, hopes to export its products to Laos and other Asean countries.
“We manufacture a wide range of packing machines, which are on sale in Chinese and international markets,” the company's Foreign Trade Manager, Ms Anny Xie, told Vientiane Times .
Ms Anny talked about the company's plans during the four-day trade fair of the 10th China-Asean Expo held in Nanning, Guangxi province, China, from September 3-6.
The event was co-sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce and its counterparts from the 10 Asean countries, and the China-Asean Expo Secretariat.
“We are currently conducting market research in Asean countries,” Ms Anny said. Asked how the packaging machines would benefit buyers, she said they would especially suit small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Laos is in the process of building up its SME products to compete with businesses from other Asean member countries when the Asean Economic Community comes into effect in 2015, according to a senior trade official.
Meanwhile, the China-Asean free trade area is being promoted at various trade venues, especially at this year's China-Asean Expo.
Ms Anny said her company sells different types of packaging machines with prices starting at US$22,000 and ranging up to US$138,000 per unit.
“We export our products to the US, Mexico and other South American countries. The China-Asean Expo is important because it enables us to connect with more customers from Asean countries and other trade partners,” she added.
The promotion and enhancement of trade and bilateral cooperation between China and Asean nations is continuing to produce satisfactory achievements, as it has done over the past decade.
China's Prime Minister Li Keqiang said the China-Asean free trade area aims to keep pace with the times, cover a wider field and trade in higher quality products.
“China is willing to conclude long-term trade agreements on agricultural products with Asean, and also increase imports of Asean commodities that sell well and are competitive in the Chinese market.”
“We are striving for a bilateral trade volume of US$1 trillion by 2020 and an increase of US$150 billion in mutual investment in the next eight years,” Mr Li said.
He noted that Asean is not just the top priority in China's diplomatic relations with neighbouring areas but is also a priority for China's outbound investment.
