Firms eye benefits of logistics, investment, trade at Lao dry port

Business operators, including those involved in logistics, are being encouraged to take advantage of opportunities offered in logistics, trade and investment at the under-construction Thanaleng Dry Port (TDP) in Lao capital Vientiane and other dry ports.

To ensure that businesses are aware of and benefit from the services provided by the dry port, the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) on December 9 held a seminar to explain to members the business opportunities offered by the facility.

The seminar was co-organised by LNCCI and Vientiane Logistics Park Co Ltd with the theme “logistics and cargo shipment of goods in dry ports for domestic and export”.

The event was attended by LNCCI president Oudet Souvannavong and Vientiane Logistics Park Co Ltd chairman Chanthone Sitthixay.

TDP managing director Sakhone Philangam gave a talk on the services provided with regard to the shipment of containers, the documents needed, and other paperwork involved.

Participants discussed the various services available, the transfer of containers, and the overall logistics system. The discussions enabled participants to get to know more about the business opportunities on offer and to prepare them for cooperation in trade, investment and logistics.

More than 100 people took part in the seminar including 67 attending through a video link.

Earlier this month, the grand opening of the TDP and Vientiane Logistics Park took place, marking the start of streamlined services to facilitate and cut the cost of transport and related expenditure.

Built on 382ha of land, the $727 million dry port and logistics hub will offer comprehensive facilities relating to freight transport and cross-border logistics.

The project, which comes with a 50-year concession period, is being developed in full by the Lao-owned Vientiane Logistics Park Co Ltd. Construction of the dry port and logistics hub began in December 2020 with the project expected to be fully complete within the next two years.
