Local fuel company's preparations towards the AEC
A major local petrol distributor, Petroleum Trading Lao Co Ltd, plans to develop its logistics services and management system in line with the government's suggestions about preparing for the coming Asean Economic Community (AEC).
The company, known as Petrotrade, signed a ‘logistics development agreement' with the Chamber of Industry of the North Eastern Region of Thailand on Thursday in Vientiane, which will be one year in duration. The agreement is in relation to training Petrotrade's staff and helping the company with logistics systems management and service upgrades.
“Currently, Laos is preparing towards the coming AEC in 2015. That is why the government has urged all local business sectors to improve themselves as the country is doing,” Petrotrade representative Mr Bounthanh Chitavong said.
At present, Petrotrade has over 100 trucks f or the transport service sector, “so we need to develop or upgrade our service and management systems as per the government's suggestion because it is part of preparations for the AEC,” Mr Boun thanh said at the signing ceremony.
Petrotrade was established over four years ago and has grown rapidly since, including in the logistics sector; it now has a large transportation system for fuel and goods.
The development of the company's logistics system is designed to ensure it offers safe and reliable services and achieves customer satisfaction. “We have to improve our company's management systems to ensure we will be able to complete on the international stage,” Mr Bounthanh said.
The improvement is also necessary due to the company's preparations to offer transportation services to markets outside of Laos because “Petrotrade also has plans to expand fuel services to neighbouring countries in the near future,” he added.
Currently there are many petrol companies from neighbouring countries running businesses in Laos and “we also plan to have similar such services in the neighbouring countries,” Mr Bounthanh said.
Petrotrade now has more that more than 100 petrol stations in Laos, including large stations in the cities and small stations in the countryside and remote areas.
The agreement will also help foster a good relationship between the two companies' businesses and enhance future cooperation between the respective parties towards the coming AEC.
When the AEC comes into being in 2015 it will create a single market and production base, a highly competitive economic region of equitable economic development, and a region that occupies a significant place within the global economy.
