Sepon on track to deliver annual copper production target

MMG Lane Xang Minerals Limited Sepon (LXML) has announced that their Sepon mine produced 22,851 tonnes of copper cathode in the second quarter of 2013, which is 12 percent higher than the first quarter of this year.

The mine also generated 11,301 ounces of gold in this quarter, an increase of 25 percent over the first quarter.

“Sepon has now exceeded the designed nameplate capacity for the fifth consecutive quarter,” said Rick Watsford, LXML General Manager. The increase in first half copper production is due to improved electro-winning of copper.

Last year, LXML also moved to being an ow ner-operator mine. “All core mining activity at Sepon are now undertaken by LXML employees. The result has been a significant improvement in safety, extraction volume and profits. This has contributed to the quarter on quart er productivity improvements that are being seen today,” said Mr Watsford.

Sepon expects to produce 83,000-88,000 tonnes of copper cathode and 40,000-50,000 ounces of gold this year.
