Shares retain gains in HCM City but fail in Ha Noi

On the HCM City Stock Exchange this March 22 morning, the VN-Index extended its gain by 0.33 per cent to reach 493.40 points.

However, only 59 listed stocks rallied, while 62 tumbled and 135 others closed unchanged.

Trading value slightly decreased compared to yesterday morning, totaling VND610.36 billion (US$29 million) with 29.2 million shares.

Blue chips did not perform really well, pulling the VN30, tracking the top 30 shares, down 0.05 per cent to 559.10 points. Only six shares among the 30 blue chips managed to add value while the gains of the others were modest.

Meanwhile on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell 0.8 per cent to 60.99 points. Losers overwhelmed gainers by 108-52.

Market value hit a meagre level of VND151.4 billion ($7.2) on a volume of 18.6 million shares.

The two bourses will reopen at 1pm.
