Stock indices up, trades focus on small shares

Shares surprisingly closed in green on both exchanges this December 12 morning but the money was mainly in small shares.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index opened low but added 0.46 per cent to close at 391.18 points.

Advancers outnumbered decliners by 111-41, led by blue chips, with the VN30 tracking the top 30 shares up 0.32 per cent to 457.35 points.

Almost 23.4 million shares, worth VND265 billion (US$12.7 million), changed hands this morning, with transactions dominated by penny and mid-caps.

The three most active codes on the bourse were mid-cap shares: Idico - Petroleum Trading Cintruction Investment (PXL), Petro Capital Infrastructure Investment (PTL) and mining company Tai Nguyen Corp (TNT), with each code seeing more than 1 million shares traded.

All three shares, traded for VND2,500-3,200 a share, posted gains of 3-4 per cent.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also rose 0.49 per cent to finish the morning's session at 52.98 points on a turnover of nearly VND127 billion ($6.1 million).

Property developer Sacomreal (SCR) remained the most active code with 3.26 million shares changing hands, rising 3.85 per cent over yesterday to VND5,400 a share.

Trading will resume at 1pm.
