Shares lose value at high rate

Shares continued to decline on both national stock exchanges with benchmark indices heavily losing value.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index slid 2.6 per cent, reaching 377.77 points.

Only 25 listed stocks, or 10 per cent of the codes, managed to post gains.

Meanwhile, none of the 30 top shares tracked by the VN30 advanced. Notably, seven of them plunged to their floor prices, including insurer giant Bao Viet Holdings (BVH).

The index, therefore, dropped 2.7 per cent to 445.72 points.

Trading value declined 18.4 per cent compared to yesterday morning's session, standing at VND451.47 billion (US$21.4 million) on a total volume of 41.4 million shares.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell to 50.89 points, a 3.36 per cent decrease.

Losers overwhelmed gainers by 165-27.

Market value, however, soared 150 per cent over yesterday morning to VND191.5 billion ($9.1 million).

The HNX30, composed of the bourse's leading shares in terms of capitalisation and liquidity, also lost 4.19 per cent to 92.19 points.

Trading will resume at 1pm.
